Also erst mal: Elton John = <3. In meiner „geht immer“-Playlist sind bestimmt 15 Songs von ihm drin: Darunter unter anderem Saturday Night’s Alright For Fighting, Crocodile Rock, Kiss The Bride, I’m Still Standing und natürlich auch Tiny Dancer, Bennie And The Jets und Rocket Man. Die letzten drei Songs haben jetzt endlich auch Musikvideos verpasst bekommen. Alle drei Songs stammen ja quasi aus einer Zeit, zu der das mit den Musikvideos noch kein Ding war.

Jedenfalls hat Elton John zusammen mit YouTube einen Wettbewerb gestartet, bei dem sich junge Künstler mit Ideen für die drei Videos bewerben konnten. Dabei gab es für jeden Clip jeweils eine eigene Kategorie: Animation, Live Action und Choreography.

A panel of industry renowned judges selected three winning filmmakers who went on to receive support from YouTube and top production studios to bring their ideas to life.

Elton John – Tiny Dancer Musikvideo

Fangen wir mal mit Tiny Dancer (Live Action) an. Das Video gefällt mir extrem gut. Es folgt mehreren Protagonisten und spielt in Los Angeles. Ich finde es besonders spannend, wie man es geschafft hat, große Gefühle wie Liebe, Trauer, Freude und Verzweiflung in so kurzer Zeit so stark zu vermitteln. Und obwohl das Video auf den ersten Blick keinen direkten Bezug zum Song hat, passt es doch absolut perfekt zum Song. Dieser YouTube-Kommentar hier fasst das gut zusammen:

Elton John – Rocket Man Musikvideo

Weiter geht es mit Rocket Man (Animation). Auch sehr gelungen wie ich finde. Das Video erzählt die Geschichte von Majid Adins Flucht aus dem Iran 2015. Gibt dem Song eine ganz neue und aktuelle Bedeutung.

Majid Adin’s winning video for “Rocket Man” is a poignant animated work that draws on his personal experiences as an Iranian refugee making his way to England – reimagining the song and giving a new perspective to the lyrics to tell a thought-provoking story of adventure, loneliness and hope. A fine art university graduate working in animation production, Adin travelled across Europe during the 2015 refugee crisis, spending time in the infamous Calais Jungle camp before being granted asylum in the U.K. and now rebuilding his life as an artist in Britain.

Elton John – Bennie And The Jets Musikvideo

Zu guter Letzt wäre da jetzt noch Bennie And The Jets. Den YouTube-Kommentaren entnehme ich, dass das Video vielen wohl ein wenig zu speziell ist. Ich finde die Ausführung eigentlich recht gelungen und auch zum Song gut passend.

The “Bennie and the Jets” video has been interpreted by director Jack Whiteley and choreographer/artistic director Laura Brownhill and tells the story of the formation of Bennie and her Jets. The set and central structure takes its inspiration from Fritz Lang’s 1927 science-fiction film, “Metropolis,” while the synchronized choreography is inspired by Busby Berkeley films, and the black-and-white aesthetic is a nod to the classic Hollywood era.
